A shared death experience occurs when a living person observes the transition of a person who is dying. They experience the initial stages of the afterlife together. During a shared death experience, living experiencers are allowed to witness a dying person’s journey from this life into what lies beyond.
Here is a video in which Dr. Raymond Moody describes how he first came across shared death experiences in the '70s: owing to the medical procedures at the time, which called for the dying person not to be assisted by family members but by medical staff, the first shared death experiences were mainly reported by medical staff, especially if they had a special bond with the patient. As the medical procedures changed, and family members were allowed to be with their loved ones at the time of transition, shared death experiences started being reported by family members.
